Everything in life is a process

Everything in life is a process. Your life is nothing but a bunch of workflow diagrams, starting somewhere and ending somewhere. That’s it. All there is in life is pretty much processes. Lined up, happening one after the other, sometimes simultaneously, together in sync or chaos, defining who you are, what you do and why?

Think about work. It starts somewhere, there are decisions in between, a lot of work and you get information out of it that you store in the ‘experience’ database. Ultimately and ideally the process ends in satisfaction. Or as in most cases, money.

But at the end of all such processes is the beginning of another process. That is the rule.

And the process can either be good or bad. They can happen just once or repeatedly. They may have an end or an infinite loop.

If they happen, again and again- they are habits.

If they end in an increased database of skills, experience or knowledge- they are productive.

If they end in elation- they are fun.

If they happen in a closed loop- it is addiction.

Generally, when one takes drugs, the process ends in satisfaction. It is then followed by a decision- if you say yes to the decision, the loop restarts. But if you say no, you get out of the loop. But since every such process has to be continued by another process, one way to convince yourself to say no is to replace the drug process with something else. That is how habits are changed.

Hence, you must look at life as nothing but logical progressions called processes. It might seem so but the goal isn’t to stick to processes that make you satisfied. It is somewhat the opposite. Since if you rely on the same processes for satisfaction, you end up in a rut. Bored, exhausted and uncreative. The right thing is to try out many processes and have a diverse set you can go back to at any time for satisfaction.

And all this will culminate in the biggest process called life. Step by step as you choose, remove and do things, life moves further on and you move upwards as a human being. Life may throw you some errors in between and you may hate a process or two but you must remember that a process always has an end and that end is in your hands. Just take care that your process, when you look back, is elegant in its own way.

It may not be as efficient as possible or as neat, but processes nevertheless when lived well are damn enjoyable things.
